ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND COURSE DESCRIPTION

This program is authored and presented by grief expert, Jennifer Vazquez, LCSW.  A series of 5 courses, Introduction to Grief Therapy: A Framework for Treating the Grieving Client; Grief and Death of a Spouse; Grief and Death of a Child; Grief and Frontline Workers; Grief and Ambiguous Loss, all designed for mental health professionals to gain a better understanding of the most common types of loss experienced by a client in private practice. Providing a tool kit of what to do for and say to a grieving client,  Participants may sign up for individual courses of interest or for the entire grief series of five courses.  If signing up for individual courses it is suggested participants enroll in the introductory course but not required.

Original Cost per course is $100.  For a total of $500 for all 5 courses.

SALE PRICE: $375 for all 5 and $75 per course.  An extra 5% of the sale price will be applied to groups of 3 or more. 

Participants registering for the entirety of the Grief Certificate Program: Registration for all 5 courses and a payment of $375 in the series is due by February 17, 2026.   Registrants may leave a $75 deposit to hold a spot each course of the series, and make payments towards the balance to satisfy the $375 by February 17, 2026.  Failure to pay the $375 in full by February 17 will result in being removed from the course.

Course Description

Participants of this “Intro” course will gain a detailed understanding of an expected clinical grief presentation, environmental factors (family dynamics, employment, finances, etc.) that are affected after a death, as well as the basic framework for conceptualizing and treating the grieving client.  Attendees will gain a better understanding of an expected grief presentation and prognosis. As well as understanding and concept of general grief symptoms, implement and identify the appropriate treatment modalities.  This course is designed for new and seasoned professionals in private practice or conducting therapy on an outpatient basis who are interested in working with clients who have experienced death of a family member, friend, patient, etc.

3. Distinguish and demonstrate knowledge of the difference between mourning and active grief beyond the mourning period.

Grief and Death of a Spouse

Course Description:

Participants of this course will discuss the impact of death and grief suffered with the loss of a spouse, partner, and/or significant other. Often regarded as only second to losing a child, losing a spouse/partner will have a multi-year symptom presentation. This course will review the “business of grief” (including events such as memorial and estate planning), the therapist’s role in providing support, grieving with minor children, dating after the loss of a spouse/partner, and overall family dynamics. This course is designed for new and seasoned professionals in private practice conducting therapy on an outpatient basis who are interested in working with clients who have experienced the death of a spouse or partner.

Learning Objective:

1. Conceptualize and identify the expected symptom presentation unique to loss of a spouse.
2. Gain and understanding and concept regarding environmental factors, estate and funeral planning and related that to its impact on the client and apply this to treatment planning.
3. Identify, distinguish and apply developmental stages or the time of a person’s life (young, middle and older age adults) to treatment planning.

Course Description

Participants of this course will discuss the deep impact surrounding the death of a child and how losing a child changes grieving parents. This course will outline grief (including a symptoms presentation, suicide assessment, and the therapist role in providing support), family dynamics, workplace impacts, and restoring ‘homeostasis’. This course is designed for new and seasoned professionals in private practice or conducting therapy on an outpatient basis who are interested in working with clients who have experienced the death of a child of any age.

1.Gain a working framework of a typical grieving process unique to surviving parents/guardians after the death of a child.

Course Description

Participants of this course will discuss the impact of death and grief frontline workers (Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, EMTs, Behavioral Health Staff, etc.) regularly face in their professional careers. We will define frontline workers, discuss the often-overlooked support staff, and review the goals and ethics surrounding educated professionals in these fields.  Additional work will be discussed regarding the long-term mental health effects of frontline trauma response in effect health disasters/endemics, natural disasters, threats to terrorism and community violence. This course is designed for new and seasoned professionals in private practice or conducting therapy on an outpatient basis

Participants of this course will discuss the various types of non-permanent loss and the expected emotional presentation congruent to those losses.  For example, family estrangement, long term incarceration to a loved one, miscarriage, preterm delivery, abortion, health decline/changes, missing persons, and immigration/loss of country.
